SALAIR_CONVAIR440_N357SA_MIA_0197_JP_small.jpgBeautiful Salair Convair 440 taxiis for departure. In the background are beauties such as Haiti Trans Air DC8, Million Air 707 & Tristar (the 707 would go on to have a terrible crash in Manta, Ecuador on takeoff) and another Convair in front of the Millons.

EASTERN_DC7_N836D_MIA_0611B_JP_small.jpgThe beautifully restored Eastern DC7 lands at MIA behind the American Airlines restored DC3 and just in front of the oncoming Lufthansa A380 first flight to MIA. I was hoping for a touchdown shot but he landed way too early so this is what I got

USAF_B29_CLT_0512E_JP_small.jpgWhat a catch! I came to the airport to get the Gabon 777 leaving and completely forgot that this B-29 (and the B-24) were performing flights for the general public. I went crazy when I saw this B-29 going by and got this great shot of it, then another one when it landed

IMG_2268_JP_small.jpgBeautiful view out the window of Eastern DC-7B N836D as we fly South down the coastline of Ford Lauderdale. This was an amazing flight that took us from Opa Locka Airport in Miami, up the coast to Palm Beach, then U-turn down to Biscayne Bay and then up again back t Opa Locka. Total flight time, about 45 minutes

AW9A0623small.jpgThis was pretty neat...

|
B24_CLT_0512_JP_small.jpgAmazing timing! 16 passengers on board walking away from the airplane! I just got to the airport with Andrew (my son), I get out of the car- and this is what I see! The smoke is still there as this historical B-24 broke it's nose gear and skidded down the runway until it stopped at this location

|
IMG_3356.jpgSuch a beautiful airplane... For those that don't know, this is the type of plane you would fly from say, New York to Rome back in the 50's!

IMG_3434.jpgDC7 and A380- the only thing they both have in common is that they are both airplanes, that's about it!

9A_dc7startup.jpgUnlike today's props and jets, back in the 50's and 60's, this is what a passenger sitting in my seat would see when the engine "fires up". The fire and some of the oil you see there are completely normal for this vintage airliner
